Imouto Paradise 1.01 Patch

Bad Hiyori

A patch for Imouto Paradise was prepared to address several concerns that have been reported by users. The list of fixes are as follows:

  • - Several users have expressed dismay in finding that Hiyori’s anus is partially obscured by mosaic during her spanking/anal beads/incontinence scene. We apologize for the inconvenience and have restored her anus to its former unaltered glory. Additional staff will be used in the future to verify anus visibility in all CG.
  • - The undocumented aspect ratio dialog that we didn’t even know existed (accessible via ctrl+t while in game) now has English text. Do note that this feature is unsupported and may cause weird issues when playing!
  • - Various typos and minor text issues have also been corrected.

You can download the patch HERE. To install, simply extract the zip file into your Imouto Paradise folder. As per usual, any downloads going forward after today should have the patch already applied.

VanThis week we’re taking a bit of time to talk about d2b, or the Second Literature Club.

It’s been many years since the events of Kira Kira for those in the Second Literature Club band. 10 whole years, in fact. While Kirari’s moved on and become a world famous singer, all the other members have completely distanced themselves from the world of music. They’ve graduated college, they’ve started working real, salaried jobs as fully fledged members of society, and most of them have reached that point in their lives where they’re finally starting to see just how bitter that can be. Their time in the band is just an old memory now.recording

For Shikanosuke, Chie, and Kashiwara, it’s become hard to tell if this is really the right way for them to be living their lives. As they’re looking to the past and worrying about their futures, Kirari finally returns to Japan, asking them to join her for her anniversary concert.

It’s a great chance, but none of them are young anymore. They all have jobs, responsibilities, obligations, and all the other bonds that tie adults down. They’re all forced to turn her offer down at first, but can they pull it off? Can they even perform like they used to after 10 years of letting their instruments collect dust? How will this once in a lifetime chance change their outlook on life? eventHow will DEARDROPS change them all?

Take it away Tuna Salad!

A year or so ago, shortly after we first announced ImoPara, I was having an intense discussion with a friend of mine as to why people got off on sister fetishes. Him having an older sister, he conjectured that perhaps for those who have no first-hand experience with how miserable it is growing up with an actual sibling, a fictional harem setting like ImoPara’s would be quite enticing. Me, being an only child, disagreed on the premise that I had an older sister fetish and found younger sister stereotypes to be quite annoying.

One year passes, ImoPara falls on my lap, Aya shows up in a naked apron, I’m sold.

017

Yes I’m a sucker for naked apron play, fuck off.

In my defense, Aya’s the family caretaker, so she’s practically the doting older sister which is straight down my strike zone. Everywhere from at the dinner table, back of the bus, and even morning wood, Aya’s got you covered. Lest we not forget, everyone’s favorite, SOAPLAND! Not that there’s actually a soapland in game, but Aya provided the soapland services and with her tig ol’ bitties, it’s just–anyways…

023

Enough of the down and dirty H that I know all of you are going to get the game for. Other than the naughty, the filler material that guides you from H to H can be pretty amusing too. Aya’s the surrogate mother, nothing too fun about her. Rio is the physically abusive tsundere who is virtually all tsun in any route not her own. Hiyori is the red backpack who’s really cute in that almost normal little sister kind of way until you remember that she’s a heroine that gets boned at some point. Koharu is the sex kitten who’s sole purpose seems to be creating awkward situations for her big brother.

018

This was in the common route…

Then there’s Michika… no words can describe Michika and the sheer amounts of amusement I got from her with every story arc. Her H scenes weren’t quite my cup of tea, but everything in-between was solid gold.

004

This was in the common route…

012

Still the common route, and boy did that one escalate quickly…

022

You guessed it, common route. What a dick move…

Other than just the girls and the plot (lol, playing nukiege for the plot), there are some other token ‘features’ that are more novel than anything else. Some of the H scenes are mildly animated, Boob Wars level of animation. All H scenes come with an orgasm countdown (no screenshot available because I’m lazy), and I’m told that in the original there was a feature where you could press a button and it would tweet how many times you’ve squeezed one off via the game. We weren’t able to port that feature since Twitter’s changed since then…

DEARDROPS

event_DDThis week we’re taking a bit of time to talk about DEARDROPS.

For DEARDROPS, it’s only been three years since Shoichi left for his stint in Germany. For most of them, it’s been three years spent refining and polishing up their skills, building themselves up so they’ll be ready to hit the ground running when Shoichi finally returns. All except for Riho. While all the other members have made steady improvement, Riho has been stuck banging her head against the wall in her own singing ability. No matter what she’s tried so far, she hasn’t been able to break through it and move on the next level. For her, the years have been nothing but frustration. Frustration at her failed attempts, frustration at her lack of progress, and frustration at herself for growing weak and starting to worry if she’s finally hit her ceiling, and whether or not she’s becoming a disappointment to Shoichi.ev01

In the midst of all that frustration and anxiety, she catches a broadcast of Shoichi’s latest performance–together on stage with Kirari. Then the tabloids start writing news about a love affair between the two of them! As Riho’s worries and frustration continue to grow, Shoichi finally makes his return to Japan–right alongside Kirari. Not only that, but he returns with the offer for a new major concert–performing together with Kirari at her anniversary concert. As Riho’s frustrations and worries continue to grow, what fate lies in store for DEARDROPS? Can Riho overcome this hurdle in her life? How will Kirari and the Second Literature Club change the future of DEARDROPS?ev03

d2b vs DEARDROPS Patch

403_event

For those who have been experiencing issues with d2b vs Deardrops, this patch should resolve the following problems:

  • - Fixed a problem where the game could freeze during certain points when the script is waiting for audio to finish to advance.
  • - Made some changes to the way the text window is displayed. It should make text window transitions work better, and also fixes a weird glitch where a phantom duplicate character could appear on screen.
  • - Put in some countermeasures to prevent the unusual problem where volume of speed sliders would sometimes reset to the far left when leaving the config screen.
  • - Fixed a few minor typos.

Anyone downloading the game new will have the patch already applied. To install, simply extract the contents of the zip file into the folder where you installed d2b vs Deardrops. You can grab the patch HERE.

Tester’s Corner: d2b vs DEARDROPS Ed. Vol 1

cut_001_20_10Today we’re proud to introduce our first Tester’s Corner for d2b vs DEARDROPS!

I still remember the first time I heard about Mangagamer. It was at New York Comic Con back in 2010, when the company was a lot less known than they are now.

They had a tiny booth in the corner of the room, where they were showing off a few games they had translated. Having read some VNs before, I was intrigued by the attempt to bring VNs to the West, so I went over and took a look. There my eye was caught by a game cover that featured a girl playing her guitar. “It’s like K-On, but with an actually good plot,” said the clerk. They had my attention.

That day, I bought my copy of Kira Kira, leading me on a four-year ride with Overdrive that just finished, and I’ve never been happier. So without further ado, I’ll give you my impressions of d2b vs DEARDROPS.

ArtArt

They really pulled out the stops doing the art for this one. All of the characters have received new sprites in the DEARDROPS character style, including Maejima who was rarely ever seen on screen before. There are many new CGs too, and they’re all gorgeous. While I certainly feel a great sense of love and nostalgia for the normal Overdrive art style, the DEARDROPS style has a lot of polish and feels much more modern than the old one. This game is easy on the eyes, and you’ll find yourself screencapping and saving CGs for use as cellphone wallpapers in no time.

MusicMusic and Sound

Where could this game be without good music? I must say that there aren’t any new tracks in this game. Almost all of the tracks are recycled from the old games and soundtracks (there are one or two songs that I’m not sure I’ve heard before, but they are probably released on old albums and not written specifically for this game). Normally, that would be a demerit, but it’s actually even better here. Hearing old tracks play gives you a deep sense of nostalgia for the older games, especially the Kira Kira soundtrack itself. A cool thing they do is that when they switch character perspectives, they’ll play music from their corresponding game, i.e. scenes featuring Maejima will have Kira Kira bgm while Shoichi’s scenes will have DEARDROPS bgm. It feels really cool to pick up on that, and it’s well placed. There are a lot of song cameos that you wouldn’t expect either; I won’t spoil anything, but I nearly exploded out of my chair when a certain song began playing one of the times Kirari got on stage. If you like the Kira Kira and DEARDROPS OSTs, you’re going to have a good time.

The only thing I might mention as a demerit here is that even with the advanced perspectives of the characters, Shoichi and Maejima are not voiced. I really wish that they’d found voices for these two, as it would have been great to get a fix on what they sounded like.

StoryStory

As you’ve no doubt read in descriptions of the game, the story is essentially about d2b temporarily getting back together to play a concert with DEARDROPS. I won’t go into too many details, but the story was quite good and actually much more substantial than I expected. Rather than being a side scenario that is there purely for surface value, the game actually delves into characters’ stories and advances their arcs. It takes a lot of unexpected twists and turns for something billed as a “fan disc,” and fans of the series will really enjoy the ride. The only complaint is that I wish there was more to the game, as it’s a bit short, but when your only gripe is that you love something so much that you haven’t had enough, you know you’re in a good place. There are no sex scenes in the game, as it’s an all-ages release, but honestly with the way the story goes you really don’t need them anyway.

Final Remarks

This game is a blast. It’s a short but very sweet final sendoff for fans of the Kira Kira/DEARDROPS series of games. As you click through to the end, you’ll have the bittersweet feeling of knowing that you’re done with the stories of these wonderful characters, but you know that it was an awesome ride in the end. If you’re a fan, you owe it to yourself to play this game and go on one last punk rock ride.

Cartagra – Staff Introduction

_intro00Today we’re proud to present a brief introduction to the staff behind Cartagra‘s amazing mystery tale!

_intro01

Cartagra is a branching visual novel that follows Takashiro Shugo as he investigates the mysterious disappearance of a girl five years ago and the strange serial murders currently occurring in his neighborhood. The player experiences events primarily through Shugo’s point of view and can make decisions that will influence the progression of the story, and in some cases, the fate of the characters as well.

_intro02The game’s scenario was written by Iida Kazuhiko, who also wrote Littlewitch’s Quartett! and Period. Its subdued but beautiful graphics were drawn by Sugina Miki, who also did the art for Kara no Shojo and Kara no Shojo 2, and colored by simoshi, also known as shimokoshi, who went on to work on Fate/stay night and Mahoutsukai no Yoru for Type-Moon. And the game’s atmospheric music was composed by MANYO, who also composed the soundtracks for Kara no Shojo and Kara no Shojo 2, the Baldr Sky series, and SUCCESS’s Akai Ito and Aoi Shiro.

1

Today we’re proud to introduce our second Tester’s Corner for d2b vs DEARDROPS! d2b vs DEARDROPS –Cross the Future- was my first experience playing a title in the KIRA KIRA and DEARDROPS world as a tester and not a consumer. KIRA KIRA was before my time, and I was occupied with a different title when DEARDROPS was up for testing. However, this would mark the third time I would visit an OVERDRIVE title as a tester.

2

My feelings regarding this title could be summarized as that of great nostalgia at the return of both the cast of KIRA KIRA and DEARDROPS. It has been a few years since I had visited these two titles, and d2b vs dd tosses the player several years into the future of the true end for both games. I was able to see where the members of the Second Literature Club ended up following their rapid rise to fame in music and where Kirari was in her quest to international status as a musician. At the same time, the state of DEARDROPS and the return of Shouichi to the band served to ground the game’s setting as the members of DEARDROPS still remained true to their cause.

3

The game was short. I would wager almost too short, as it opens up the window in the end to new stories and new adventures, leaving me wanting to both replay DEARDROPS and KIRA KIRA as well as hoping for a new installment in the series from OVERDRIVE.

As music is the theme for the title, the soundtracks featured in this game were enjoyable and themed to match the band or characters currently speaking. The best track to me had to be the final vocal track featuring both bands as they performed at their joint concert.

4

This title was the first title in which I got to work on using Doddler’s new engine here at MangaGamer. While the experience was not a completely smooth ride, the rate in which Doddler provided fixes to the problems, usually minor and cosmetic, was a welcome breath of fresh air when compared to the fix times of some of my previous assignments. I could tell that he worked hard to accurately recreate the visual effects featured in the original engine by OVERDRIVE, and I can personally say that the presentation of the game was buttery smooth.

All in all, my experiences testing d2b vs DEARDROPS –Cross the Future- could be cut down to a few simple points. It was a worthy sequel that crosses over two of OVERDRIVE’s previous titles. It is a short game without branching that takes a few hours to play from start to finish. And finally, d2b vs DD left me wanting more from the series, as it ended on a note open to expansion. Overall, I can’t complain and I am glad to have been given the opportunity to work on this title.

Cartagra – Main Characters

Cartagra_CG10Today we’re proud to introduce the main characters of Cartagra, Shugo and Kazuna.

shugoTakashiro Shugo

Our protagonist, Shugo is an ex-cop who’s been freeloading for a few months at the Yukishiro, an Ueno brothel. Since quitting his job as a police detective, he’s been making his living working the occasional case brought to him by his old boss, Inspector Arishima. That’s how the game begins: Arishima’s busy investigating a recent string of serial murders, so he brings Shugo a missing persons case he doesn’t have time to look into. Shugo accepts the case, thinking it’ll be a simple job. What he doesn’t anticipate is that the person who’s missing is Kozuki Yura, a girl he was intimately acquainted with before his days with the police. With a personal connection to the object of his investigation, Shugo is determined to get to the bottom of Yura’s disappearance.

kazunaKozuki Kazuna

Kazuna is Yura’s twin sister, though they weren’t very close before her disappearance. Still, when Kazuna hears that her missing sister has been sighted in Ueno, she enthusiastically joins Shugo’s search, just as determined as he is to find her sister. An aspiring actress, Kazuna is bright, cheerful, and just a little bit odd sometimes–though her friends all tell her she’s really quite normal! Filled with boundless optimism, though maybe a little naive, Kazuna is like a ray of light shining into the darkness of Ueno.

Kazuna is voiced by Akishiro Yuzuki. She reprises her role as Kazuna in Kara no Shojo, and plays Stella as well. You may also recognize her as Tsukuba Yoh in Saya no Uta.

Ya, you were waiting for this. Don't lie to yourself.

Ya, you were waiting for this. Don’t lie to yourself.

Today’s Babble is brought to you by NekoBabbles!

For the few of you who might have read my last Tester’s Corner on Eroge! Sex and Games Make Sexy Games! (which caused me to practice abstinence for a while, consider joining a nunnery, steal candy from children), I took a break from beta testing.
… And by taking a break, I mean I spent a good portion of my time plotting ways to destroy my tormentor, Kouryuu.

I guess he got smart fast and gave me this game to review. So readers, let us return to the world of rock and roll for Overdrive‘s 5th anniversary- which was totally in 2011, but who was REALLY waiting for this game to be translated, right?!

STORYTIME –
(This whole article has SPOILERS. But honestly, if you haven’t played KIRAKIRA or DEARDROPS by now…. WHHHHHHHYYYYYYY?!)

The story takes place 3 years after Suganuma Shoichi left Deardrops to pursue his violin talents in Germany. During this time, Deardops has remained active, but Kaguya Riho’s long-distance relationship with Shoichi has been hard on her. So you can imagine her emotional roller coaster when she sees THIS on TV without any prior notice from her boyfriend:

OH NO. NO, YOU DIDN'T, SHOICHI.

OH NO. NO, YOU DIDN’T, SHOICHI.

Meanwhile, all the graduated members of the Second Literature Club (D2B), with the exception of Shiino Kirari, have been out of musical practice for 5 years, working in society as normal human beings. (You know, the stuff adults do and complain about because real life is boring…) Maejima Shikanosuke is first seen questioning his role in Kirari’s stardom world.

Through a combination of coincidences, Riho and Shikanosuke end up bonding over their long-distance relationship issues until they receive notice that their significant others are in an affair… with each other.

Well then. Let’s fix that problem.

I'm attending Riho's Relationship Seminar.

I’m attending Riho’s Relationship Seminar.

The story itself is not very long (hence, the smaller price tag). However, this serves to only enhance the experience as the readers walk through the broken pieces of the Second Literature Club and the rising members of Deardrops. Unlike most other visual novels I have played, this storyline focuses on 4 main characters and their points of view: Kaguya Riho, Suganuma Shoichi, Maejima Shikanosuke, Shiino Kirari. The chemistry between the two worlds of KiraKira and Deardrops meshed well for all the characters. Readers who have played the prior visual novels will also pick up on the Easter Eggs alluded.

Even if you haven’t played either game, this visual novel is still enjoyable because the narrative is told so that you bond with the characters and become interested in their stories to want to play the original visual novels. The music is a throwback to the original games, but it’s the CG in this game that keeps it going. There are a lot of beautiful cut scenes built into this game that keep the storytelling fresh.

So play this game. The cat commands you to.

He's Grumpy Cat.

He’s Grumpy Cat.

TL;DR

1. Play this game.
2. Music is great. CG is great.
3. Gives you THE FEELS.
4. It’s short… and sweet.
5. No sex. (Look, you have to take a break from fapping sometime…)
