A Short Look Back, Part 12

MascotsWith our fifth year anniversary coming to a close, we decided to take a moment to showcase some of the thoughts and feelings of the staff that have been a part of MangaGamer over the years. This one comes from our beta tester, Neko Len!

Hello everybody, Neko Len here, and with the 5th anniversary of Mangagamer upon us, it is time for a look back from the view of a tester.

I originally was a tester for No Name Losers (NNL), working on the ef project while it was still a fan effort. I remember seeing the anime, and finding out a t/l of the game was underway. Which then dropped off the radar for quite a bit. Then I was informed that the first chapter was done, Miyako’s chapter. I grabbed it and quite enjoyed it. Then I noticed they were making a call for testers for the rest of it. Not knowing much of anything involved, except that testing can get difficult at times (I have a few acquaintances that did video game testing.), I popped an email saying I was interested. The response was rather quick, so I popped in the IRC chan, and after the rundown, I became a tester. It was difficult and stressful, but thoroughly enjoyable. I loved doing it. Then stuff happened, and we became officially working with minori and Mangagamer. It was at this point Kouryuu asked if I wanted to test stuff for them as well. I jumped right on it. The first project I worked on, and to this day one of my favorites, was Da Capo II. This is also the time where the term “waifu” actually clicked with me…

Anzu captivated me completely.

I enjoyed Da Capo original game, and was quite happy to learn the second one was being translated. This also marks the first time I did a complete 180 turn in my opinion of a heroine. Yume, your non blood related imouto buttons. I quite disliked her at first. Found her to be quite irritating actually.

Yume’s default expression

So, when testing her route, I expected to dislike her even more. Then I really got into her route. And she won me over. This was the first time I did such a large 180 in my view of a character.

The testing was a bit troubled at first. If I remember correctly, we tested in chunks, as in we got part of the beta to do first, then the rest. Annoyingly, there was a scripting error in one of the important choice points, and no matter what you chose, it would go down the path of a certain choice, most likely not the one you picked. Fortunately, this was remedied quickly. Rest of the project went pretty smoothly. Aside from ef, D.C. II is the most memorable of all the games I tested, and my favorite. Being also the first one I did for Mangagamer, It was actually quite large. Im just glad I had experience in large projects do to ef. It was this point I decided to grab a old CRT monitor and attach it to my laptop. Being able to have your scripts and report on a different screen that what you are testing is very useful, I would recommend doing this if you can. It makes keeping organized and on track much easier.winter_onsen

One thing I will say about Mangagamer, is that the quality of work, testing and general polish has improved massively over time. Take an early work, say, like Kira Kira or Suika, and stack it up against say, Deardrops, Da Capo II and such. Even down to the choice of font. Font is one thing I pay attention to when testing. From general legibility, and ease on the eyes.

My least favorite bit is most likely the nukige, but I tend to be wiling to test, well anything. Can’t like em all. And besides that, they can be quite humorous. And as I have shown to people in my gaming groups on XBL, a great method of psy ops. Basically read random h scenes in party chat, completely deadpan. Then hop into game chat during a match, and get a friend to take the role of the girl. And read out the scene. Deadpan, or sometimes go full ham. Managed to get opposing players, who were not expecting it, to crash repeatedly during matches of Ace Combat 6, or Forza 4. Even just testing the stuff alone has me in stitches much of the time. It can be a great MST 3000 type fodder. I have actually had a great deal of fun with every project assigned, and that’s probably a good thing.

So this has been Neko Len, reflecting on some of my experiences as a tester. It basically boils down to it is fun, and I enjoy it, and can not really think of another way to put it, other than “I like it.” I do hope my fellow testers are enjoying as much as I have been~

Tester’s Corner: Valkyrie Svia Ed. Vol 1

Svia01Today we’re proud to present our first tester’s corner for Valkyrie Svia from Linktriforce007!

Valkyrie Svia is a visual novel developed by Black Lilith, and follows the lives of two Valkyries, Valkyrie Svia and Valkyrie Sigurd who are guarding two keys to the floodgates that hold back the water which feeds the world tree, Yggdrasil. One might ask why they are guarding these keys. Well, Odin, the god of Asgard was actually captured by Hel, the ruler of the underworld, in an effort to take over the world. However, Odin decided that he’d rather have the world tree die and as a result, the world die, rather than let Hel rule it.

In order to obtain the keys so that they may save the world in order to conquer it, the main character, Loki, must use perverted means to extract the keys out of their bodies by forcing them into submission. Loki is genuinely in love with who Valkyrie Svia used to be before she became a Valkyrie, and wants to win her over by using more honest, yet still evil, methods.

The two main Valkyries:

Valkyrie Sigurd:Sigurd

and Valkyrie Svia:Svia

Personally, I found this visual novel to be very intriguing as it used some of the mythology I was familiar from, and Norse Mythology has always been one of my favorites. Playing as a villain is also always cool, and it’s always quite fulfilling when you get your way, and upsetting when you don’t.

After a while playing this, I really started to despise the other villains because of how Loki would see them. Perhaps I got too into the game, true. But I was captivated by Loki’s love and persistence. He definitely was a person who did what he felt like doing.

Anyway, underneath it all, I found this to be an interesting Visual Novel. Feels good to play a villain, would definitely not feel good to play the heroine in this one.

Thanks for reading my review, I really appreciate that!

MascotsWith our fifth year anniversary coming to a close, we decided to take a moment to showcase some of the thoughts and feelings of the staff that have been a part of MangaGamer over the years. This one comes from our beta tester, Nurio!

010714_0533_AShortLookB1.pngKiraKira. I suppose most of you know this visual novel. It was my very first visual novel from MangaGamer, and my second visual novel ever. To this day, it remains to be one of my favorites, and I have very fond memories of it. Probably the funniest memory is how I thought it was Edelweiss and didn’t realize something was wrong until the d2b band had finished their first tour.010714_0533_AShortLookB2.png

See? The game covers look totally alike! …Okay, they don’t! But I was 19! Nineteen, man! That’s like two and a half in dog years! I had only just heard about visual novels and this MongoGoomer company before diving right into it! Anyway, for the longest time through KiraKira I had the nagging questions “When are they going to this all girls’ school?” or “What is all this punk band stuff about?”. Can you imagine the confusion!? I just wanted to have this visual novel about an all girls’ school and sex. Instead, I got a visual novel about punk bands.

Yes, my reason to play visual novels was, and I quote my 18-or-19-year-old self, “to have hentai porn with some nice story behind it because just pictures without context doesn’t do it for me.” If I hadn’t educated myself better, I might have ended up as one of those guys who buys all of MangaGamer’s nukige. Now, instead, I test these nukige for MangaGamer! Lucky… me…?

The first nukige that I tested… I have some fond and less fond memories of this one…

The first nukige that I tested… I have some fond and less fond memories of this one…

It’s actually because of my confusion between KiraKira and Edelweiss that I set out to do some research and found out about thing like… “Oh, so they are both made by Overdrive; that is why they look alike!” and “Oh wow, there are sequels being translated!”. I got involved, and before I knew it, I became a fan of MangaGamer and Overdrive especially. (Or a fanboy, as some might argue.) If there were no initial confusion, I might not be where I am today. I might just have not gotten as invested as I am now… That’s a scary thought! Imagine a Nurio who’s not invested in visual novels… That’s a sad Nurio!

There are days where I think back on my time with MangaGamer and I consider myself incredibly lucky. I do enjoy testing these games… I love correcting people, and now I can correct people who actually want my excessively harsh corrections. And my reward is being able to play games early, instead of the bitch slap I usually get when I correct people… Of course I can’t help but feel like I’ve lucked out.

Just now I notice that bento box lid seems like some icky form of censoring…

Just now I notice that bento box lid seems like some icky form of censoring…

It’s actually Edelweiss that got me into testing. People might be familiar with the old translation… I still remember how confusing it was! I loved the game, but by Mary was it hard to follow sometimes! So, when I heard about the retranslation, as a fan of Overdrive and being a wiseass, I was adamant to have this retranslation be as perfect as can be. I played through the demo and pointed out every error I saw. My list was pretty huge (just like my p……ony collection)!

At that time, I had turned 20 not too long ago and I just submitted my list of corrections on the forums. So, when I got an e-mail from my demi-god idol Kouryuu… My hear almost stopped. I literally had to jog (read: run around with flailing arms) for 2 hours before I was able to reply to him. I told everyone I knew about Kouryuu’s offer – that’s how happy I was. Kouryuu was inviting me to become a beta tester… *melts*

And here I am now… Having tested 6… 7… games (depending on when you read this), I am still glad and going ahead at full steam! Despite having been with MangaGamer since January 2010 (and being a tester since February 2011), I believe I am nowadays still as much out of the loop with anything Japanese as I was back then. The only names in this business I know are those affiliated with MangaGamer, and even then I only know half of those. I stick to purely testing! No time to investigate other things!

Looking back on it all… I’ve gained a lot. I’ve made a few friends (YOU KNOW WHO YOU ARE! *stares*) and had some incredible experiences, like being convinced by the power of nukige for the first timeI’ve turned into a bear… I cry every time I hear certain background tracks… I’ve made a humble Kouryuu shrine… I swear I’ve gotten more Asian than before… I’ve become more elitist in spelling than before… I found out how to inject VNs directly into my veins… And I’ve given away my sister to Bamboo… (I have to keep her in the dungeon so she won’t interrupt my story again!)

Every game I tested… Placement and coverage does not indicate how much I liked the game

Every game I tested… Placement and coverage does not indicate how much I liked the game

My MangaGamer 5th Anniversary story is not that fascinating, but that’s simply because there’s not a lot to say. I didn’t and don’t have any special connections anywhere. I entered this business looking for porn, ended up loving visual novels, posted a bit on forums and before I knew it, Kouryuu stole my heart.

Yeah, I love MangaGamer and I love having been given this opportunity to work on visual novels. Nurio, out!

(If you have any more questions about me, don’t hesitate to ask. Nurio loves the attention! …Just don’t feed him anything after midnight.)

MascotsWith our fifth year anniversary coming to a close, we decided to take a moment to showcase some of the thoughts and feelings of the staff that have been a part of MangaGamer over the years. This one comes from our beta testers, Ally & Sally!

Hello, we’re Ally & Sally! ヽ(*・ω・)人(・ω・*)ノ

We’re Canadian twin sisters that love eroge and visual novels and have been beta-testing games at MangaGamer!010814_0625_AShortLookB1.jpg

When we first heard about MG when it was just starting up, we were really excited to hear that famous games such as Da Capo would be coming out in English. Later when we found out that the final translation of their products weren’t as great as hoped, we were a bit disappointed but still continued to keep an eye on them and continued to watch their progress!

After graduating from high school, we heard that MG was looking for some new beta-testers and jumped at the chance! We started beta-testing our first nukige ever, Harem Party, together and even though we didn’t really care for it in the end, it was an interesting first experience. (*´ω`*)

Although we haven’t tested as many games as some other testers have, we also try to help out at MG’s booth at cons by talking about visual novels and eroge to those that check out the booth and pass by as well as performing! We love singing and dancing, so we’ll sometimes perform anime songs, idol songs, denpa songs, or eroge songs at MG’s booth. Our most popular song by far seems to be our cover of a song by FICE, an Akihabara “Denpunk” unit, called “Chichi-sama ~Ah, Oppai-sama~”. It’s repetitive chants of “( ゚∀゚)o彡°Oppai! ( ゚∀゚)o彡°Oppai!” seems to always bring people in! Maybe we should try to learn Ultimate Boob Wars‘ ending theme, “One Night Fire”, too! (o´∀`o)

Other than Harem Party, Ally has also tested “Eroge! Sex and Games make Sexy Games” and recently just finished “Ultimate Boob Wars” without Sally. Even though some of the nukige can be a bit painful to go through scene after scene at times, it’s really fun to play through a variety of games and we’re really glad to be able to feel like we’re helping even if it’s just a bit for MangaGamer! ヽ(〃´∀`〃)ノ We’re looking forward to testing a lot more titles in the next coming year! We just want to see more and more people enjoy the wonderful genre of entertainment that visual novels and eroge are!

We hope that MG will continue to do well and bring out even more wonderful games for an English market!
Let’s all support MangaGamer and aim for that 10 year anniversary! ヽ(。ゝω・。)ノ ☆

Introduction to Ultimate Boob Wars

introheaderAre you ready for the epic sequel to the ever popular Boob Wars? Featuring a cast of over ten, lovely ladies with breasts ranging from AAA to I cup! Unlike the original, Boob Wars 2 has traded in its battle system in favor of more in-depth, ‘intimate’ diplomatic relations.

In a distant land, we find the continent of Bustchest: a once peaceful land, ruled by the kingdoms of Piequartz and Serpettane.

Piequartz is home to the people of the Big Breast Tribe, named, as you might expect, for the ample size of its women’s bossoms. They are known for their strength, size and military might. The Big Breast Tribe worships the reptilian goddess of big breasts, Boweene.

Serpettane, on the other hand, is home to the Flat Chest Tribe, known not only for the diminutive size of their women’s breasts, but also their small stature, intellectual acumen and magical prowess. The Flat Chest Tribe worships the reptilian goddess of flat chests, Petan.

Both kingdoms were on friendly terms, until one fateful day, that would come to be known as the Tittynomachina, when their goddesses began to fight. Ultimately, the continent was cleft in two and the amicable relationship between the two kingdoms was severed.dragons

The deep ravine between the kingdoms prevented active war, but their hatred smoldered for a thousand years, so, when a mysterious shift in the world’s crust forced the two halves back together, war broke out: the Boob Wars.

With both kingdoms devastated by the fires of war, the breast deities call upon you, a traveler and firm believer in mammary equality by the name of Haruto, to become their Savior by collecting Boob Energy from all corners of the land and making a miracle happen. Are you up to the task? The fate of the breasts of the world lie in your skilled hands!plsendthewar

Tester’s Corner: Valkyrie Svia Ed. Vol 2

Svia01Today we’re proud to present another tester’s corner for Valkyrie Svia! This one comes from our tester, wavedash!

While it may not be the greatest piece of literature in the world, Valkyrie Svia is one of the best nukige I’ve read, and for some fairly unexpected reasons.

Valkyrie Svia comes from the veteran eroge developer Lilith, so it should come as no surprise that the game has some great sex scenes. The combination of beautiful art and colorful writing is as effective as you’d expect. The game’s pacing is also great; I rarely found myself overwhelmed by a “well, that escalated quickly” moment, nor did I find myself skipping through scenes try get to the “good stuff,” a problem I’ve had with some other nukige.

Pictured above: good stuff

Pictured above: good stuff

I would have to attribute a large portion of my enjoyment of this game to one single person: Svia’s voice actor, Kanematsu Yuka. She is a prolific voice actor in the eroge industry, having worked on games such as Period, Kyonyuu Fantasy, and Dracu-riot!. Her voice as Svia is simply amazing. Kanematsu Yuka projects more variety into her acting than the other two voice actors in this game, and most porn in general. She doesn’t just repeatedly moan for hours. She adds in hurried gasps, subtle sighs, expressive pauses, and much more. I’d even go as far as to say that Kanematsu Yuka got me… sporting a sequoia more than the game’s art or writing. This goes beyond just sex appeal, too. Svia’s inner voice, when vocalized, is unbelievably cute when she’s flustered.

Unfortunately, the voice acting doesn't come out very well in this image.

Unfortunately, the voice acting doesn’t come out very well in this image.

Although the plot itself is fairly simple, it is also surprisingly thought-provoking. The first few chapters of the game are narrated by one of the heroines, Sigurd. The game’s h-scenes are also often narrated from the perspective of the two valkyries; this naturally makes the reader empathize with them. However, due to the game’s story, these two women are simultaneously portrayed as the “enemy,” as they are essentially striving to destroy the world. This is an interesting dynamic that I’ve never seen from a visual novel before; I’ve never played a game where events are (sometimes) told from the heroines’ point of view, while the same heroines are portrayed almost as antagonists. None of the games I’ve played that have a similar “training” motif, such as Slave Witch April or We Love Master!, share this feature.

"Tell me and I forget, teach me and I may remember, involve me and I learn." -Benjamin Franklin

“Tell me and I forget, teach me and I may remember, involve me and I learn.” -Benjamin Franklin

Lastly, Valkyrie Svia’s route structure was also quite unexpected. Now, let me get this out of the way: Valkyrie Svia is definitely not a family-friendly game. It’s demeaning to women, and there are some scenes that are certainly not for the faint of heart.

Spoiler Inside: Bad things happen. SelectShow>

In spite of all this, the game is laid out in such a way that treating the two valkyries in a slightly more humane way gives you a better ending. The situations in which the two heroines are placed during the bad endings’ routes are fairly extreme. They make the good ending’s h-scenes look like a moege sex scene in comparison. I didn’t expect the best ending of an eroge primarily focused on rape to be obtained by using more “romantic” methods. It’s almost like the game is trying to teach us a lesson: to be kind and considerate in how you treat women important to you.

In the end, Valkyrie Svia is a great game, though it’s not one I’d recommend to just anyone, for obvious reasons. But if you know what you’re getting into, if you’re okay with some “harsher” h-scenes, you’re in for a treat.

With our fifth year anniversary coming to a close, we decided to take a moment to showcase some of the thoughts and feelings of the staff that have been a part of MangaGamer over the years. This one comes from BдTMдN, one of the more recent additions to our translation team, who’s currently working on revamping one of our old translations.

Five years. Feels like it’s been so short yet feels like it was so long ago. At that time I was selling Japanese style furniture in Canada from an south east Asian island state. Teaching how to copy-write and efficient experimental models for SEO. Living behind a mom and pop owned BBQ restaurant with my good friend… He was the son of a banana harvester that built his own blacksmith workshop to produce high quality harvesting knives. I was supporting myself through college with my father helping when things had gotten tight. From this experience I learned hunger and drive.

After college I returned back to the US to find work a new position and spend time with family. Working for an interior design and remodeling company for a few months I then found a position teaching in China. It’s quite surprising how knowing kanji makes it so much easier to understand and pick up Mandarin Chinese.

So fast-forwarding two years I find myself in Hong Kong faced with Cantonese and the differences between the two dialects are like comparing Spanish and Portuguese. Thankfully the majority of the Hong Kong peoples are versed in both Mandarin and English. It truly was a wonderful place and I hope to go back there some time. I did quite enjoy the mix of English influence and Chinese heritage.

Finishing my tour of Asian countries, I find myself back in the United States rebuilding relationships with friends I’ve lost touch with and finding out how much has changed since last I lived here. (Getting fat from all the delicious goodies gamma makes.) nom nom nom

imouto_pradise_CG03

I’m quite new to MangaGamer in many senses of the word. I had heard of them before but it was only through a friend of a friend that I became affiliated with them. Really, I never expected to stay very long with them since I was called in for assistance on Imouto Paradise. I was surprised with the community into which I was brought. I have grown to enjoy their knowledge, thoughts and ideals. There are quite a few characters running MangaGamer and they all have their own niches and preferences.

I do not know much about how things have developed in the last five years here at MangaGamer but I do have the pleasure to work on a product that had begun at that time. Quite a few know of the series thanks to the anime adaptation and others know of it from the radio broadcasts. Mayhaps there are others that know of it’s origins as an original fanfic on 07th expansion‘s website or their later visual novel adaptation. Higurashi: When they Cry.

Higurashi

The language used in Japanese is quite poetic and artistically expressed. As the story is set in a rural village there were often references to products and people that have had little penetration into the west. The personalities of each character and their isms were unique. The lady-like yet crafty Satoko, the timid yet eccentric Rena, the adorable Rika, the bad-boy Keiichi, Mion the leader of the gang, and the rest of the cast each with their own quirks. Trying to preserve each of them in English has been quite a struggle. The nuances in Japanese like using sound effects to describe reactions, adjectives that can make up entire phrases, sayings based off Chinese proverbs, and slurring words to make them sound cuter have also made this a wonderful piece to be assigned.

I thought that having the original script would help make things easier to understand but sometimes it made them a bit more confusing. Some parts were quite liberal with it’s expression of the situations and some just used equivalents of what’s happening which were close enough in meaning to the same thing. Yeah. Eventually I was just banging my head against the wall trying to understand the lines in the original script and how they were related to the events that were happening in the story. Thankfully I was saved by Kouryuu since he told me… not to… use the script… after he gave it to me…

Higurashi When They Cry Kai

Ahem, so after that I was told how the standards of MG weren’t as high as they are now and the work done to improve things overall. The reforms, reassignments, and generally how things were turned around through reaping the souls of ba… I mean building up infrastructure. I felt that part was the most impressive and appreciate all the hard work put into making things better. Even thought I wasn’t around to see the improvement. I’m pretty sure it was amazing. Yes.

night1Today we are proud to announce the official distribution of Rose Gun Days and Higanbana no Saku Yoru ni at MangaGamer! Please note this is similar to Umineko in that it is an official route in which to obtain the game in order to use the existing English patch.

RGDRose Gun Days is a four part series produced by 07th Expansion and written by Ryukishi07. Set in post World War II Japan, the story follows Leo Shishigami in an action packed adventure as he encounters Rose Haibara, madam of the club Primavera in Tokyo. Exploring the criminal underworld and protecting the Madam Rose as a bodyguard, Leo Shishigami and company play out a tale that is much lighter in tone than previous Ryukishi07 works.

night2Higanbana no Saku Yoru ni is a darker tale, set within the confines of a school where Marie and Higanbana play out a series of short stories spanning abuse, bullying, and mystery. The stories are divided into the seven different youkai that inhabit the school, with Higanbana being the third ranked to haunt the school and each story delves into the perspective of the bully or the victim as the students live out the consequences of their actions.

012114_0808_AShortLookB1.pngWith our fifth year anniversary coming to a close, we decided to take a moment to showcase some of the thoughts and feelings of the staff that have been a part of MangaGamer over the years. This one comes from one of our newest translators, Good Haro!

Hi, I’m Good Haro. I only joined MangaGamer last year as a translator for Ultimate Boob Wars, so this’ll be an especially short look back.

I guess my situation’s not too dissimilar to many of the other staff here. I’d been into anime and manga since as far back as I can remember and I started getting into visual novels in high school. I went to college, got a degree in Japanese (that wasn’t really the plan, but it just kinda happened that way) and then had no idea what to do with myself.

I’ve been involved in the fan community for a few years doing some fansubbing and unofficial visual novel projects, but that kind of thing doesn’t exactly pay the bills. So, last year when Doddler was asking around on IRC for translators I jumped at the opportunity to make some money doing something I enjoy. And that’s how I came to translate Boob Wars 2.

otherheaderI was happy to be getting any kind of job at the time, so I told my little sister about it—apparently, her favorite ice-breaker with her coworkers is now, “Hey, did you know my sister translates Japanese porn games?” Maybe all her ‘advertising’ will get us some new customers? Anyway, I learned a lot in the process of working on Boob Wars 2 and I’ve been enjoying getting to know the rest of the staff here.

I’ve only just started working with MangaGamer, but with my next assignment underway I’m pretty excited about the future here. It hasn’t been announced yet, so, I can’t really say too much, but I’m really fond of it (I still kind of can’t believe I actually get to work on it). It’s pretty different from anything MangaGamer’s released before and I’m sure a lot of you will take one look at it and go ‘no thanks,’ but I hope you guys give it a chance!

Umi3

Okay, so we know a lot of you have been enjoying the personal looks back from various members of our staff, but I bet a lot of you are still wondering how we’ve done in terms of business during 2013. So, let’s get started with a review of what’s happened and changed in the last year!

One of the biggest highlights and marks of our growth during 2013 was probably the fact that we were able to announce over three different new partners as well as over 16 new titles acquired for release here to the western audience, and a great deal of those are already out if not rapidly nearing completion. We’ve been expanding and growing at an incredible speed here in the past year, and there have been a few road-bumps as we pick up speed and start stretching our wings. As our staff already mentioned in one of our previous looks back, as of this year, we at MangaGamer can now officially say that we are the localization company which has single-handedly put the most visual novels and eroge titles on the Western market for English-speaking fans of all varieties and walks of life to enjoy! So let’s take a look at our top sellers for 2013!

Eroge_CG06

  1. EROGE! ~Sex and Games Makes Sexy Games~
  2. Demon Master Chris
  3. Harukoi Otome ~Greetings from the Maidens’ Garden~
  4. Cum on! Bukkake Ranch!
  5. Tick! Tack!
  6. SSSS: Super Secret Sexy Spy
  7. Throb! The Greatest Inventions of the Sexy Era!
  8. Kara no Shojo
  9. Koihime Musou
  10. Touma Kojirou’s Detective File -Murder at the Opera House

So, in short, the porn has been doing quite strongly this year, which gives us a lot of hope for the success of Lilith’s line of games as they start pouring out in 2014, but the more story-centric ones are still trying to put up a fight. We’ve added a new title to our catalog nearly every month since the new website went up in April, and each and every one of them is doing well. Eroge‘s success has definitely proven that longer, more involved nukige have a chance of succeeding as a full-priced title, so we’re very hopeful about our upcoming releases of Ultimate Boob Wars and the extra-long Imouto ParadiseWe also have a few other exciting pieces along this vein to announce already, but we’ll hint at those later in our look forward.

What about our hard-copy sales though?

  10. Da Capo 2

Boob Wars has undeniably become one of our top sellers with over 1500 hard copies sold this year on top of it’s already similarly large digital sales, so we’re quite excited to see how well Ultimate Boob Wars fares with the longer content and higher price. It’s good to see that at least in hard copy form our story games are all running strongly against some of our other options. Though we didn’t get to add too many titles to our hard copy selection this year between all the road bumps involved in getting our new hard-copy section of the website up and running, we’re very happy to add Kara no Shojo to that list, and we hope everyone here who hasn’t tried it takes this chance to pick up the Limited Edition before it’s gone. The soundtrack for the game is beautiful, and you wouldn’t want to miss it. We’ll be talking about new additions to our hard copy catalog later, but we’re glad that everything is now up and running. We’re still adjusting to taking orders and handling this ourselves to some extent, so be sure to share your feed-back with us so we can help improve our service.

CG06

Earlier we mentioned some road-bumps as our expansion has really been picking up speed, and they’ve been felt all around. With the retirement of slaonereinja from our editing department and his replacement by ochareinja with Tim assisting on more occasional editing, our entire team has been forced to take note of several translation standards we’d been previously taking for granted as known by everyone. This specific bump has been even more pronounced by the fact that we’ve been adding many new translators to the team of contractors helping us bring these wonderful games to everyone. Hopefully our old-time testers are pulling through and none of you reading this will be able to notice this bump at all. If so, make sure to give them another pat on the back in addition to ours. That being said though, this has helped us create a better defined list of standards, that will hopefully help our broad team produce more unified results for your reading pleasure.

Our convention attendance this year also saw some expansion, and we’re very pleased with all of the results thus far. Though we won’t be expanding our attendance in 2014, we do plan to keep attending all the conventions you’ve seen us at this year.

With all this rapid expansion, things here at MangaGamer have been getting very busy on every end, but our strive to bring out lots of good games with quality translations remains the same, and we’re excited and hopeful that our fanbase will continue growing along with us!

bigboobsheaderToday we introduce the citizens of the Piequartz Kingdom, the well-endowed women of the Big Breast tribe!

milphaMilphalia Ur Urrila
To start us off is the girl that drags you into the save-the-world business and the owner of an impressive G-cup rack, Milphalia Ur Urrila or Milpha for short. Milpha is the shrine maiden of the Big Breast Tribe, but despite that she is a firm believer in mammary equality. Boweene and Petan give her to Haruto as his ‘personal boobs’ to convince him to become the Savior of Bustchest.

Milpha is cheerful, naive and a bit shy, but she puts her all into everything she does, including serving as Haruto’s personal boobs. Milpha’s boobs aren’t just huge though: thanks to her Big Breast Maiden lineage, she lactates when she becomes sexually aroused.

Milpha is voiced by Konoha, a voice actress with quite an extensive resume, including Queen Teresa in the original Boob Wars, Sonono Nene in Eroge, and Kusakabe Ruri in SSSS.

estraeaEstraea Munnue Piequartz
Estraea is the princess and supreme ruler of Piequartz. As you might expect of the leader of the Big Breast tribe, she has the chest to match: an imposing I-cup.

In public she sports a gentle, gleaming smile and is well regarded among her subjects. But, in private she has a bit of a sadistic streak and loves to tease people!

Despite being a princess, Estraea fights on the front lines of the Boob Wars with her precious whip. She’s a force to be reckoned with and whoever has the misfortune to meet her in battle ends up too traumatized to ever fight again. She seems almost perfect at first glance, but she has a secret and harbors some deep-seated insecurities about it.

Estraea is voiced by Iino Shiori, perhaps better known as Kimura Ayaka. She’s appeared in a number of other MangaGamer titles including Koihime Musou as Toutaku, Sexy Demon Transformation as Usui Yukihi and Touma Kojirou’s Detective File as Nanase Ako.

lumhaLumha Howard
Lumha is a soldier in the Piequartz army. She’s fiercely loyal to Estraea and the Big Breast tribe and has no love for the Flat Chests. She serves Piequartz in a variety of capacities, including gatekeeper and jail guard.

She’s strong and competitive, but a bit of a scaredy cat and threats of punishment from Estraea terrify her. When it comes to just about anyone else, she can be rude and aggressive and doesn’t hesitate to take any opportunity to belittle Flat Chests.

Lumha is voiced by Harukawa Akari. You may remember her as Milk in the original Boob Wars and Kominase Aki in SSSS.

Today we introduce the citizens of the Serpettane Kingdom, the women of the Flat Chest tribe!

iris

Iris Milla Serpettane
Haruto’s other traveling companion with a seemingly bottomless stomach. Iris has a terrible sense of direction and is generally pretty lacking in common sense. But, you can’t really blame her. Turns out, Iris is Serpettane’s princess and she’s lived quite a sheltered life, but she’s hiding it from Haruto and Milpha.

Iris isn’t as open-minded as Milpa and is still rather hostile to members of the Big Breast tribe. She’s proud and not terribly honest about her feelings.

As a member of Serpettane royalty, Iris has an exceptionally small chest. What her breasts lack in size they make up for in sensitivity. Iris is so sensitive, she can orgasm just from nipple play.

Iris is voiced by Okuyama Ayumi. You may remember her from Sexy Demon Transformation as Kusakabe Shiori and Bukakke Ranch as Korin.

chocolat

Chocolat Collation
Chocolat is Iris’s maid and a master of Flat Chest cuisine. But, she also fancies herself some kind of superhero, calling herself Luna Soltiras as she travels around the continent in search of Iris.

She knows how to put on an impressive show to go along with her heroic idolations. The magic she uses looks dangerous and intimidating, but its effects leave much to be desired. She likes to pretend she’s more knowledgable than she actually is, especially when it comes to sex.

Chocolat is voiced by Satou Ryouka who also provides the voice for Petan. She also voiced Asakura Otome in Da Capo 2 under the name Hinaki Ran.

tiara

Tiara Firo Serpettane
Tiara is the queen of Serpettane and Iris’s mother. She’s calm, cool and a bit of a control freak. She’s been managing the kingdom all on her own since her husband, the king, passed away. She’s under a lot of stress as a result, because she wants to do it all herself.

Tiara isn’t fond of war, but feels a duty to her people to keep up the fight. Unlike Estraea, she doesn’t fight herself on the front lines, but she’s an accomplished tactician whom her soldiers respect and trust.

Tiara is voiced by Himari who also provides the voice for Boweene interestingly enough. You may be familiar with her as Haruhara Fuuka in Throb! The Greatest Inventions of the Sexy Era!, Fudesaka Tomoko in Eroge! ~Sex and Games Make Sexy Games~ and Papy in Bukake Ranch.

nico

Nico
Nico lives in an enchanted forest in Serpettane territory with Aria and a giant white fox-wolf she calls ‘Mama.’ Nico is a bit of an oddity. Despite being a member of the Flat Chest tribe, she sports H-cup breasts! She also has animal ears and a tail for some reason.

Nico is shy and obedient. She’s taken to calling Haruto ‘Papa’ after Mama took a liking to him. She’s very sweet and innocent, but she has learned a thing or two about the birds and the bees from her animal friends.

Nico is voiced by Katakura Hina who also happens to voice Nico’s ‘Mama’ as well as Youko in Touma Kojirou’s Detective File and Sawashiro Nanako in Kara no Shoujo 2.

aria

Aria Aliialia
Aria is an elf who lives in the forest with Nico. She Milpha’s Flat Chest counterpart. While to the untrained eye Aria might almost look like a child, she’s easily over a thousand years old, but don’t remind her unless you want to get hurt. She’s a long time friend of Petan and Boweene.

She tends to act excessively girly and hyper, but she also has bit of a mischievous streak. She dotes on Nico, but hates it when she calls her ‘Grandma.’ She’s quite intent on getting everyone to call her Aria-chan instead, but it doesn’t seem to be doing much good.

Aria is voiced by Konoe Yuzuko who also appeared in Touma Kojirou’s Detective File as Touma Reina.

Today we’re proud to introduce the remaining cast of Boob Wars 2 who don’t belong to either kingdom!

kotone

Kotone
Kotone is Haruto’s sister. She’s a member of the much discriminated against Average Chest tribe and lives in isolation with the rest of her people to escape persecution from the Big Breast and Flat Chest tribes.

She’s extremely polite and deferential and holds great admiration for her brother. Kotone is extremely skilled at swordsmanship and uses her fighting prowess to rescue enslaved Average Chests. Both kingdoms have a bounty on her head.

chry

Chry Santhemum
Chry is the princess of the Carsilian Empire, which is located on an entirely different continent. She and her people worship the ass and think the people of Bustchest foolish for their devotion to breasts. She has a vicious, fiery personality and weaponry to match.

Both Kotone and Chry are voiced by Misono Mei. You may remember her from Eroge! as Fujiwara Momoka.

Tester’s Corner: Ultimate Boob Wars Ed. Vol 1

Today we’re proud to present the first Tester’s Corner for Ultimate Boob Wars from our tester Ally!

Sally & I often try to help out at Manga Gamer’s booth at cons and after seeing how well Boob Wars was selling, I decided to play through it a couple of months back. I wasn’t very impressed and was a bit let down, but I was curious about softhouse-seal GRANDEE’s Ultimate Boob Wars and wanted to see how it compared to the original game!

Wow! ∑(゚д゚lll)ガーン

Forget about the previous Boob Wars, this is what should have been originally released!

Similar to the first Boob Wars, in Ultimate Boob Wars, you are chosen by the Boob Gods, Boween and Petan, as the Savior and you have to collect “Boob Energy” in order to bring equality to all breasts across Bustchest continent and stop the Boob War! \(^o^)/

…What a plot! w

Unlike the first Boob Wars, this one is much longer and a lot higher quality than the first since it’s a release by softhouse-seal GRANDEE, softhouse-seal’s premium eroge brand. This time there are more characters (including medium size breasts), more ero scenes that are animated beautifully, and there is no longer any annoying card battle system either.

As a fan of big breasted characters, I wanted to play through Milpha’s, the naïve maiden of the big breast tribe and your “personal breasts”, route first, but quickly fell in love with Iris, the gluttonous tsundere loli! If you already have a weak spot for tsundere lolis, Iris’ seiyuu, Okuyama Ayumi, sounds just like Kugyuu AKA Kugimiya Rie on top of everything. Before I knew it, my heart had already been taken prisoner~ (*´Д`)ハァハァ♡

This game fulfills everything the first Boob Wars lacked. It’s a very entertaining and light game and I recommend it to those who are looking for more of a humorous game with a light plot and lots of ero scenes. I found the scenes to be pretty vanilla for the most part after testing Eroge! last, but there is a scene with nipple insertion… Don’t worry though! It has a major plot function, so no skipping through it! Right? Right!! (・∀・)☆

010814_0618_TestersCorn3v2

Overall, I was really pleased with Ultimate Boob Wars. It’s a fun and light nukige with lots of ero scenes and likeable characters. The main character and Savior, Haruto, is quite funny with his outbursts and rants about breasts and thanks to him and his love for breasts of all sizes, I think I’ve finally realized just what is so charming and entrancing about breasts! www
